Ban On Line Gaming in the U.S.?

A major Democratic congressman, Barney Frank is going to drive this 2009 legislation to repeal the ban in the U.S. in Internet gambling that has affected relations with the European Union.

" The presentation of the bill should take place next month ", spokesman said the chairman of the Financial Services Committee of the House of Representatives, Barney Frank.

Last Thursday, Reuters reported that the EU could sue to compel the U.S. to enforce the prohibition of gambling on the Internet at the World Trade Organization.

Frank

" bring a bill to repeal the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act Uíge (law prohibiting gambling on the net, by its acronym )", said the spokesman, referring to the rules Republican passed in 2006, when the party controlled the Congress and the White House.

Supporters of Prohibition argued that the stakes in foreign internet pages took billions of dollars the U.S. economy, affecting families, and they served as vehicles for money laundering < >.

The law cost European airlines internet gambling billions in losses when they were forced to withdraw one of its most lucrative markets. Prevented businesses accept payments for Internet gambling, including those made with credit cards, checks and electronic funds.

Against the advice of Frank, the Bush administration ended the rule last year to implement the ban and gave the companies until December 1 to comply. Frank added that this rule agobiaría the industry in times of economic crisis.

Many European companies such as Party Gaming and 888.com, United States withdrew after the Congress approved the ban, but face possible prosecution for criminal activities.

Now if Frank will introduce the draft law on online gambling next March.

One of his arguments against the law has always been that the government should not tell people when and how to spend their own money . However, although this argument remains valid, Frank now takes additional ammunition in their fight to repeal the Uíge .

The European Commission, which investigated the repression exercised by the U.S. on business of online gaming, especially in Europe, has recommended to the World Trade Organization to take action because the U.S. has acted unfairly forcing European companies to leave the U.S. market while allowing some American companies to operate without disruption.

It is not the first time that Barney Frank is trying to introduce similar legislation before it did but it never reached the stage of a vote . So while the supporters of Frank are optimistic, we also know they will not be a bed of roses, will be long and this is just the beginning.

The debate is served between those who support the regulation and its detractors.
