Raul Mestre

¿, as in 2007 and 2008

In 2008, the prestigious WPT Barcelona attracted 253 players for a total prizepool of € 1,278,396. The winner, the Danish Casper Hansen who won the ninth place in the EPT Dublin 2008, was € 425,000 in Barcelona. The final table was shared with the Brazilian Thiago Nishijima, Swedes Stefan Mattsson (author of two "runs deep" spectacular WSOP Main Events in 2006 and 2007 where he finished in 57th and 22nd position respectively), and Erik Friberg (ninth in the Main Event WSOP in 2006).

The professional poker player Raul Mestre was Spanish, as in 2007, among the top 20 places paid, with a 16th place (€ 10,056). A result after another: a few months later, in December 2008, to reach the final table of the European Poker Tour tournament Prague (eighth). There were no other successful Canadian players in a tournament dominated by the Scandinavians.

¿ An eighth season for the WPT World

The World Poker Tour in order to do justice to its name. In United States and Mexico, the WPT had his partner for the Full Tilt Poker room. Full Tilt classifications proposed integrated satellite and online, on television broadcasts during the seventh season, teaching sequences on the game. When the seventh season was nearing completion, the WPT had 17 stages, the majority in American territory. But now they have scheduled two new stages in Europe and in North Africa: the stages of Italy (Venice) and Cypriot (Lapta) and Morocco (Marrakech). Soon, according to recent statements of the company WPT, the World Poker Tour will also pass through China. Finally in March 2009 the WPT will be present in Puerto Rico during a tournament organized by the Pan American Corporation Pro-Am World Poker League.

The development of World Poker Tour Enterprises (WPTE) in the world through the sale of licenses and its new partner in the United States is an economic recovery strategy of the company producing televised tournaments. In February 2009, the American company announced that in the last quarter of 2008 had suffered a net loss of $ 3.3 million, or $ 12.5 million during 2008 due largely to changes in scheduling American chains and the decrease in revenue from the sale of international television licensing.

Two tournaments remain on the European agenda for the current season of World Poker Tour: WPT Venice (classifications Bwin Poker) and WPT Cyprus (Full Tilt Poker satellites) in May 2009.
